Author, Podcast Host
Who are you and what do you do?
By day, I work in the search marketing industry. In my spare time, I co-founded the podcast network and blog Modern Superior, and co-host two movie podcasts, See You Next Wednesday and Time Bandits. I also do some freelance writing – contributing articles to our own site and Retroist.
What podcasts do you listen to?
- Comedy Bang Bang – The first podcast that really got me hooked was Scott Aukerman’s Comedy Bang Bang. It was also the first podcast that I became cripplingly addicted to – for a few years straight I would never miss an episode. It’s pretty much the reason I got interested in podcasts at all. Starter Episodes – Episode #120: Farts And Procreation or Episode #92: A Worthy Uhhh
- The Faculty of Horror – Journalists and academics Andrea Subissati and Alexandra West take an analytic approach to talking about genre films, which is often sorely missing in the horror podcasting community. This is one of our own shows on Modern Superior, but I make sure to listen to it every month as it’s always a fascinating discussion and I’m a huge fan of horror movies. Starter Episode – Episode #8: A Friend of a Friend: Urban Legends in Film.
- Rewatchability – One of the best pop-culture nostalgia podcasts out there, these guys talk about the movies and television shows you may have loved as a child, but haven’t taken the time to revisit in recent years. On top of inducing a heavy nostalgia trip to anyone who listens, Rewatchability is often laugh-out-loud hilarious too. Starter Episode: Episode 108 – Inspector Gadget.
- Six Foot Plus – In host Strange Jason’s own words, Six Foot Plus is a music podcast for those who like it spooky. Every Friday Six Foot Plus drops a killer mix of music from all over the world. Plus, there’s movie reviews, recommendations and hilariously bad puns from Monstermatt Patterson. I’ve heard Six Foot Plus described as feeling like an underground pirate radio station, and that’s an apt comparison. Starter Episode – Episode 73: Freaky Tiki Surf-Ari 2013
How do you listen to podcasts?
On my Andriod phone I currently use an app called BeyondPod, but I’ve been thinking of making the jump to ShiftyJelly’s Pocket Casts for a slicker user experience.
