Pitch Design Union
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Margot Harrington. I’m the head honcho at Pitch Design Union, a Chicago based design studio that I founded in 2008. My niche is small business, arts organizations, and non-profits with cultural and social focus. Together we’re gonna change the world a little at a time. I love the internet and ampersands.
What podcasts do you listen to?
I listen to all the bigs like This American Life, Radiolab, WTF with Marc Maron (though sometimes he is too much for me, also, if I don’t know the comic being interviewed sometimes I find the conversation too insider), and the Moth. Here’s a few more.
Baby Genuises! Comedy as well as random intellect on everything from dinosaurs and trivia from wikipedia. Episode 47 with Jermaine Fowler/Emily Axford is a good place to start. And I also love episode 22 with Dan St. Germain and Sasheer Zamata.
Put Your Hands Together with Cameron Esposito! I first saw Cameron perform with El Circo Cheapo here in Chicago before she moved to LA. It was love at first side-mullet. Every single episode is awesome. I firmly believe she and Rhea Butcher are some of the hardest working comics at the moment. Their other podcast Wham Bam Pow is also great.
Savage Love – I think this should mandatory listening for every type of person since there is no real sex and relationship advice being taught in American schools anymore. Also wonderful for raising awareness in gender and queer issues world wide.
Marketplace Money: make that cheese you guys. People ask the best questions on this show.
If you like WTF with Marc Maron then you’ll like Fitzdog Radio, another comedy interview podcast.
If you like the Moth, you will like the Truth. I love their tagline, “like movies for your ears”. Short movies, but an experience nonetheless.
Professor Blastoff!! Just getting into this one but I really liked episode 105 on Emotional Intelligence.
How do you listen to podcasts?
It’s typically an afternoon/evening event for me. I write email mostly during the beginning part of the day with music as a background, but podcasts are reserved specifically for designing since I don’t have to be typing very much. Also while cooking dinner, or house-cleaning, and of course car trips.
